Adrenaline Rush
I successfully downloaded software and an IMAX video and watched it on my computer. Wow. Sure makes you want to jump out of an airplane!
Final post?
The project has been fun - most of the time. I have really learned a lot about technology that I wasn't familiar with before.
My favorite things were - reading each other's blogs and trying to figure out who it was. I will continue using blogs, flicker, YouTube and maybe some other things. I do want to go back and spend more time on some things I had to blast through. It takes longer for me to be comfortable with technology.
I think this was a great idea. It would have been more fun for me if some of the weeks hadn't had so much to do in them. There were a few weeks when it was more stressful than fun. Possibly a longer time period for the whole program.
I was suprised to realize I knew more about technology than I thought. And that I enjoyed more exercises than I guessed I would.
Last weekend I had someone show me how to text message - a new skill. I think this might be a good thing to have at reference for our patrons who are more comfortable texting than talking.
I would participate in another discovery program in the future. I appreciate Catherine and the whole team that worked on this project and LCLS for supporting it!

Download Depot
I am in the process of downloading Adrenaline Rush and IMAX film. It is about skydiving - something I have always wanted to try. After having knee replacement surgery last year, I'm guessing I won't be trying it anytime soon. So a video.
I wasn't particularly happy about having to download the software on my computer. I don't like to have a lot of extra things on my computer, but the software is loaded and the download of the movie is progressing.
Recently I have watched 2 tv shows online which was fun. One was from Netflix and one from CBS. Nice when you miss a favorite show, but it won't ever replace watching on tv for me.
It has been 10 minutes and I'm only 16% loaded. NIce that I can do something else at the same time.

YouTube
Now we're talkin'. I enjoyed this. I poked around with library videos. Saw Mr. Bean: The Library, The Silent Library, No Cookies in the Library, and Libary Dominoes.
My favorite tonight was Library Dominoes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwihz7iZlx0
My alltime favorite was Introducing the Book, the medieval help desk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFAWR6hzZek

Podcasts
I went in to Podcasts and visited the Angry Hippie (my 60's background coming out.) I listedn to Episode 3 - post 9/11 Patriotism, Religion .....
Interesting and easy to do. Much less complicated than some of our other exercises.

Zoho Writer
This is a very interesting/helpful idea. It is great for those who won't want to or can't afford software. It is good for people sharing a project that don't work together. I can see this having a future.
ZohoWriter and Web2.0 Awards
I did check out the book section of the Web 2.0 2.0 awards and went in to play on Biblio. That was kind of fun. THere are several other sections in Web2.0 awards, I would like to explore further when I have time.
Technorati
I went in to search Tecnorato for other blogs on seashells, shelling or beaches. Not too many hits. Evidently not a popular subject for bloggers. After our PTL is over, I plan to go back to my original blog on shelling in southwest Florida.
MySpace
One of the more interesting visits. I had visited Kathleen Young's MySpace page a few months before we started PTL. It is fabulous. Also a few of her friends. I did visit Tom's page. Interesting concept he came up with. I registered for a Myspace page, but will not create it. Still, it was helpful to me when a friend's son had a page and she didn't understand it. Nice to have a profession that keeps you up with the times whether you want to or not. :)
Library 2.0
I did have the chance to read Away from Icebergs, and Into a new world of librarianship.
Winding up
It has been awhile since I posted, but I have been participating as much as possible.
I watched the Wiki Slideshow and did the wiki tour. I visited Sheldon's Play House and added the National Headquarters of the Swamp Ape to his favorite places and added my blog to Favorite LCLS Blogs. I kept getting slammed with emails as other staff made changes in his play house until I turned the email function off. I didn't care for that.
I'm still not sure how libraries could use wiki effectively. Possibly local information of places to visit.
I did get into Del.icio.us and added a few web pages to my account. It is okay, but prefer our Tel Ref bookmarks.

Del.icio.us.
I have created a Del.icio.us account and added 2 web sites. I thought this might be a useful tool for librarians. However, I still miss our Tel Ref bookmarks. They were better!

Billiards - week 6
I can actually play billiards for real, but I certainly can't play on this game. Although I thought my mousing skills were adequate, they are not for this type of thing. Give me a bunch of people around a real pool table.
However, it was fun to try. I watch my grandson shooting things while playing games online. Maybe one day, I'll be better at it.

My Space
Today I signed up for a MySpace page. Of course it doesn't have anything yet except my name, etc. I watched a video interview of Tom Anderson, but so far have not found his "sign." I also have not found it particularly easy to search. I know Kathleen has a my space page. I have seen it. But searching for it and finding it are not so easy. Maybe tomorrow I'll get a picture and some other things up. I can see this taking a lot of time.

Getting easier
I just uploaded pictures from my Play to Learn Florida style vacation. These things are all getting easier.
The speaker yesterday at Staff Training Day was very interesting. I look forward to trying out some of his sites/suggestions.

So far nothing has been too difficult. Wonder what the next few weeks will bring.....

Still Flickr ing
Well back into Flickr to see if I could find any other LCLS PTL photos. I now can see 3 from Carrie and 10 from Kathleen. Mine are not showing on the "everyone's" search. I have added Carrie and Kathleen to my contacts. I used photos I had from work for this exercise, but hope to bring in some from home and add them.

If it is Week 3, it must be Flickr. I had been before just to poke around. Interesting concept. Today I uploaded a picture from my days at EC. I gave it the tag LCLS PTL. And made it public. Then I searched for others with the same tag. I know one of my co-workers at SC has already uploaded 10 pictures. I can only find mine. When I search LCLSPTL in everyone's photos - none show up. When I search the same tag in my photos, mine is there. I searched for my co-workers photos under her name and found them. Tomorrow I will have to play around with this a little more. I did watch a slide show from one of their tags and that was fun. I kept clicking on the right arrow to go faster and a little message popped up, What's Your Hurry?

avatar corrected
With a little help from my friends, my avatar is now in the correct proportions. What would we do without our techie friends?

This is my 2nd blog. I created one about shelling in SW Florida a couple of months ago, but I haven't posted to it very often. I plan to be more regular in my posts to this blog.
There are still some things I need to learn about blogging. I need to learn how to make my template more fun.
I have done the first week's assignment. On the 7 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners, I feel everyone in this profession has to be a lifelong learner. Things change too rapidly not to continue learning. Mostly it is fun and exciting.
One of the hardest things for me in the 7 1/2 Habits is viewing problems as challenges. When we are helping a patron at the reference desk or on a public Internet station and the technology is not working, it is difficult to see that as a challenge rather than as an obstacle.
I probably could also use technology to my advantage more often. Sometimes it is "easier" to continue to do things the old way than to take the time to learn a new way.
I am looking forward to participating in this activity.
